Checklist for Complaints
Things to include in a complaint:
- Your name, address and contact phone number
- The name of the lawyer you are complaining about, along with the firm, and their contact address
- If the lawyer is not your lawyer, who do they represent?
- Type of work carried out (eg conveyancing / mortgage, estate administration, family / matrimonial)
- When did you instruct the lawyer (approximately)
- Is the matter finished? When did it finish (approximately)
- How did you usually communicate with the lawyer (eg phone, e-mail, letter, other)
- How did the lawyer usually communicate with you?
- Does the lawyer know there is a problem? If so, how have you addressed this with the lawyer?
- List the complaints
- What would you like done by the lawyer to resolve the situation?
- Attach copies of letters, bills or any other documents that will help the Society to understand your problem
