About the ODLS The Society is an incorporated body under the Lawyers and Conveyancers Act 2006. Our role is to: assist members in matters relating to the practice of law in Otago; to discharge the Society's statutory functions to the best of its ability; to protect members of the public through advocacy of proper standards of competency, and professional integrity on the part of its members. Recommendations on the regulation of professional matters are made by the Audit & Practice Committee pursuant to: Law Practitioners Act 1982 Rules of Conduct and Client Care (NZLS) Other Rules and Regulations as confirmed by the New Zealand Law Society from time to time.
