Membership

Membership of the Otago District Law Society comprises those barristers and solicitors who hold a current practising certificate issued by the Society and who have their place of business in the District or where there is more than one place of business, their principal place of business within the District.

Practising certificates require to be renewed annually. The certificates remain in force until expiry, even when a barrister of solicitor has moved to another district.

In certain circumstances the Council may approve an earlier expiry of the certificate.

Under the ODLS Rules, the Society may admit to membership as an Associate Member any person who is not otherwise eligible to be a member of the Society. This will be at the pleasure of the Council subject to payment of such annual subscription as the Council from time to time prescribes.
